Wholehearted Living
Perhaps one of Brene Brown’s most unique ideas is about experiencing life from a place of worthiness. She calls this Wholehearted Living. I think about people’s experiences and how people come to a place of unworthiness. Is it that they are unworthy of love if they talk too much, talk too little, don’t do one thing, but do another? Are they not being the good girl or boy that is expected of them? Did they make mistakes along the way that others judged them harshly by? We then start to define ourselves by how others see and judge us. This idea is ingrained in us so early, too early for us to recognize. It is only by examining these feelings of unworthiness can we then go back and see how the messages we received over our life that have shaped us.
The second part of the process is learning that we are worthy of love and belonging no matter what. Let me repeat that: We are worthy of love and belonging NO MATTER WHAT. I am speaking directly to you. Why is it that when we here these types of messages we think that they are meant for everyone else but us? We believe that we have this black box hidden deep inside of us and that our “stuff” in this box is worse than anyone else’s and we believe this is why we are unworthy of love and belonging. Not true. How do you overcome this? You let the light in… You become vulnerable and examine the “stuff” and release it. Forgive yourself and then forgive others. If this seems too difficult, then find a good therapist to help you with this process. It is life changing and life giving, This is my most favorite work I do with my clients. It is time for you to edit your story…
